Tropical rainforests cover only six percent of the Earth's surface, yet they are home to almost half of all plants and animals. How rainforests have this species diversity has always been one of the great mysteries of nature . The answer could be hidden in a small wooded island in the Panama Canal . Each year talented scientists from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute come to Barro Colorado Iceland to try to solve this fascinating puzzle of nature.
