In this dramatic true story, Florence Nightingale (Kay Francis) defies military leaders to organize humanitarian nursing services during the Crimean War. Refusing to let social convention, military bureaucracy, or unspeakably harsh working conditions stop her from providing care to wounded soldiers in the Crimea, one of the most influential women in history almost single-handedly organizes a team of volunteer nurses and works tirelessly to update and improve the primitive, almost barbaric medical conditions of the Victorian Era.
