It's the summer in the Ruhr area in the 60s: The progress of the Republic is produced here, with coal and steel as building blocks of the economic miracle. People smoke, eat currywurst, shop the mom-and-pop store and see many migrant workers on the way to work . The twelve year old Julian (Oscar Brose) does not like to drink his friend's beer and to do obscene things, he is different in this world. He takes care of his little sister (Magdalena Matz), butters the bread for toiling underground father Walter (Charly Hübner) and helps in church on Sunday. Julian is a keen observer, and therefore the precocious neighbor's daughter Marusha (Greta Sophie Schmidt) also can not escape it. He is fascinated by her - but of course not the only admirer. Only time will tell what will happen here.
