It was “Halloween Night” during Week 7 of Season 21 of Dancing with the Stars! The eight remaining teams cranked out some scary good routines and split off into groups for some frightfully fun team dances. When all the dancing was done, we had to say goodbye to another team. Let’s see how the spookiest night of the year played out. Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess did an Argentine Tango to “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence. Julianne felt like the routine was a little clunky and Bruno thought there might have been some Paso Doble in there. Carrie Ann agreed that it was a little sloppy, but also thought the second half of the dance was Franken-sexy. The dance earned scores of 8-8-8 from the judges. Hayes Grier & Emma Slater did a Waltz to “Once Upon a Dream” by Lana Del Rey. Hayes knew he had to show a little more maturity with his dance. The wolfman beard he was sporting helped with the look and a long week of rehearsal did wonders for the routine. Bruno felt Hayes was a romantic and charming teen wolf. Scores for the team were 8-9-9. Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas team up for a Paso Doble to “Hora Zero” by Rodrigo y Gabriela. It can’t be easy dancing with scissors for hands, but Mark was able to wrap his arms around his partner for a fine Paso. The judges’ comments were mixed, but everyone enjoyed Alexa’s cutting edge homage to Edward Scissorhands. The judges gave them a trio of 9s for the routine. Tamar Braxton & Val Chmerkovskiy did the Foxtrot to “People are Strange” by The Doors. The atmosphere was spooky and the attitude was intense, but the dance was somewhat panned by the judges much to the chagrin of the studio audience. Nevertheless, Tamar and Val still managed to pull in three 8s. Andy Grammer & Allison Holker did their Paso Doble to “The Beautiful People” by Marulyn Manson. The team rose up from the underworld with their vampire-friendly routine. Bruno had some issues about the Paso parts. Julianne agreed with him but still found the dance weirdly awesome. Scores of 9-9-8 were turned on the paddles. Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough did an Argentine Tango “Cry Little Sister” by Gerald McMann. The scary good vampire routine was a triumph for the “Queen of Darkness” which is how Carrie Ann described Bindi. Both she and Julianne couldn’t believe she shined so brightly on Halloween Night. Bruno was also impressed by the dance that earned the first perfect score of the night! Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold teamed to do a Viennese Waltz to “Haunted” by Beyonce. It was another atmospheric fog machine-filled routine. The judges felt that Alek really stepped things up character-wise in a dance where his passion finally shined through possibly thanks to some rehearsal time with Artem. Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson did the Paso Doble to “O Fortuna” from Carmina Burana. The judges had some little criticisms about the dance, but were impressed for the most part as evidenced by the 9-10-9 scores the team received. Team “Nightmare” did their routine to “This Is Halloween” by The Citizens of Halloween. The team consisted of Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess, Tamar Braxton & Val Chmerkovskiy, Andy Grammer & Allison Holker and Hayes Grier & Emma Slater. The judges loved the concept with Julianne calling it one of the best team dances they’ve ever seen. Team “Who You Gonna Call” did their routine to “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker, Jr. The team consisted of Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough, Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas, Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson and Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold. Julianne felt the group really came together which is why she gave the team a 10. Carrie Ann and Bruno turned over 9s to make this the first team dance that Derek Hough has ever lost. Halloween Night ended with Bindi Irwin atop the leaderboard and Hayes Grier exiting the ballroom. All remaining teams are back in action for Dancing with the Stars MONDAY 8|7c as the stars and pros tackle Icons Night which will include a Dance-Off!
