Growing up in a Palestinian refugee camp, the fourteen year old Ali Messalam (Neil Belakhdar) learned from an early age to hate Jews. Now he moves from Lebanon with his family to the borough of Kreuzberg in Berlin. Here, Ali tries to befriend the Arab youth in the neighborhood. But first he must prove himself to them. Ali is tasked with breaking into the place of his Jewish-Russian neighbor Alexander (Ryszard Ronczewski). Ali and a few other young people excessively trash the old man's apartment. However Alexander unexpectedly comes home early. Of the vandals, Alexander only is able to catch Ali, whom he reports to the police. In order to escape a conviction and the resulting deportation, Ali has only one option: Ali must approach Alexander and ask for help.
