In 1986, The Anti-Drug Abuse Act was passed by the U.S. Congress, which directly led to The Three-strikes Law. Because of this, a group of women started The Decarceration Collective and have been working tirelessly to seek clemency for people serving inhumane life sentences for non-violent drug offenses. Thanks to the recent passing of The First Step Act, one man, Edward Douglas, was immediately released from prison after TDC stepped into action. Within days of his release, Mr. Douglas was on a plane to Washington D.C. where he was a guest of Senator Cory Booker for The State of the Union Address. And The Decarceration Collective is still fighting for more of their clients immediate release while The United States political system continues to deal with its own inner turmoil.
