One of silent star Norma Talmadge’s last roles sees her playing an Austrian prostitute who catches the eye of two officers just before the beginning of the war: one an Austrian, the other a Russian. Mary (Talmadge) chooses the Austrian, breaking the Russian’s heart and driving a wedge between the two friends. The Russian’s ill-feeling is magnified after the outbreak of war when he finds himself in charge of the captured Austrian town which his old flame now calls home.
