Alvin Sargent was an American screenwriter who wrote the screenplays for dozens of movies. He won two Academy Awards, for his screenplays of Julia (1977) and Ordinary People (1980). Before he became a writer, he had a brief period as an actor, portraying the role of Nair opposite Montgomery Clift in From Here To Eternity (1953), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
