A Thief in the Night is a 1972 Christian end times film produced by Russell S. Doughten. It is the first and best known film in Doughten's four-part series on the Tribulation (or Daniels's 70th Week), Rapture, and Second Coming of Christ. The films together are often referred to collectively as the "Thief" or "Rapture" series, though the bulk of the plot occurs during the period commonly called "The Tribulation," conceived of as following the Rapture and preceding the Second Coming of Christ to earth. The series focuses on the difficulties for those who miss out on the Rapture by not having trusted Christ as Savior, those who thus find themselves in The Tribulation. The first two films in the four-part series, have a plot somewhat difficult to follow because the story contains flashbacks within flashback. The story starts at the end of the first two films, where Patty is nearing execution in the Tribulation, but then there is a flashback to the time before the Rapture for most the those two films, the second of which has three flashbacks relative to the flashback! After Patty is executed, the story changes to focus on a new character named David, who wants to create a fake Mark. David's story dominates films three and four. Interspersed in the four films are many presentations of the Christian gospel or how to be saved.
