Michelle Williams, nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for LAND OF PLENTY, brings her signature emotional depth to this drama by Wim Wenders, a European filmmaker whose fascination with American culture harkens back to his 1984 breakthrough PARIS, TEXAS. Set on the streets of downtown LA, LAND OF PLENTY is a darkly humorous look at America from two very different perspectives: through the eyes of Paul (John Diehl), a troubled, patriotic Vietnam veteran, and an idealistic young woman (Williams). 9/11 re-triggers Paul's trauma and returns the ghosts of his past, but fear is the last thing Paul can admit to himself. Lana gets involved with a downtown mission serving a huge homeless community. An idealist, Lana can't reconcile her Christian faith with the actions of her country's leadership. When Paul and Lana witness the apparently random shooting of a Middle Eastern man, they investigate the incident together -- but for very different reasons.
