Having had it's world premiere at the 1972 Berlin International Film Festival, the lost film, WEEKEND OF A CHAMPION, finally re-emerged at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Frank Simon in 1971, notorious filmmaker and motor racing enthusiast Roman Polanski spent a weekend with world champion driver Sir Jackie Stewart as he attempted to win the Monaco Grand Prix. Polanski was given intense access to Stewart's world for three days, both on track and off. The result is an extraordinary rare glimpse into the life of a gifted athlete, a vérité look at a rock star in his own right. Forty years after filming, Polanski and Stewart meet once again. In a remarkable post-script, they discuss the sport, both past and present, with a unique and unmatched perspective, reflecting on both career and life.
